5 success factors for project managers

5 success factors for project managers

As a project manager, you have a clear goal: to get things done with the resources available. There are many challenges to consider, and a range of demands are placed on a project manager in every type of project. Here we share five success factors.

1. Clear goals

Every project needs a clear and concise end goal. One of the main causes of inefficiency is a lack of direction. The better you and your project team have worked through and anchored the project goals, the greater the likelihood of achieving the desired result.

2. Focus on collaboration

Quickly getting new team compositions working effectively is key. Get your colleagues to feel engaged — that naturally leads to a good end result. Be good at collaborating and communicating, but also dare to be decisive when the group can't reach agreement.

3. Switch to a digital project management tool

Who actually said what? Replace phone calls and whiteboards with a digital tool that provides an overview. Gather drawings, timelines, forecasts, work environment plans and other documents in one place — and communicate with colleagues directly in the app.

4. Planning

Spend time planning, booking meetings and structuring your work. Since circumstances can change quickly, it pays to create an overall plan in phases, then plan each phase in detail as you approach it.

5. Keep an eye on the details

Details can be decisive for the outcome. What looks like a minor issue can end up derailing a project. An eye for detail is essential for a successful project manager.
