Kubicom runs pilot project for automatic reading of weighbridge tickets

As part of developing digital working methods for reporting environmental impact, Kubicom is running a pilot together with the Swedish Transport Administration, NCC, Swerock, S. Blomquist Entreprenad and Seba-Data.

The project is being carried out on the Swedish Transport Administration's Västlänken project in Gothenburg, specifically the rock tunnels, and its purpose is to create a coherent digital information chain for handling the masses in the project. In total, around 200,000 cubic metres of rock mass are to be excavated from the tunnels and transported to Swerock's quarry in Kållered.

For the project, a QR code based on the BEAst standard has been developed — a code that the haulier scans using the Kubicom app. The QR code contains all order-related information as well as current data from the weighbridge at Swerock. All data is then sent automatically to NCC for compilation and onward transmission to the Swedish Transport Administration.

The pilot has gone really well. After four weeks the result has been overwhelmingly positive — digitally capturing weighbridge data together with other order data has simplified and reduced the administrative work for all parties, while also making the data available to everyone within hours of the work taking place.

The project has been carried out in collaboration with BEAst, Sweden's standardisation organisation for the construction industry. The next step is to roll out the QR code to all system suppliers in Sweden for a broad rollout.
